The Redesign Mistake That Costs Clients 40% of Traffic
Why redesigns tank traffic
Teams change URL structures, delete pages, mis-handle redirects, and forget metadata. Three weeks post-launch, organic has cratered and nobody knows why.
The redirect map
Before we launch, every old URL maps to a new one via a 301. No 404s. No chains longer than one hop. We audit with Screaming Frog before and after launch.
Preserving metadata
Title tags, meta descriptions, and structured data carry over. If we're changing them, we change them intentionally — not as a side effect of the redesign.
The 30-day monitor
Post-launch we monitor GSC daily for two weeks, then weekly. Any coverage drop gets root-caused within 24 hours. This is what separates a clean launch from a disaster.
